Schools are safer with armed guards. There are countless examples of school shootings where school safety hasn’t had the right tools to defend the schools or the students and staff inside. As a result, the schools have to utilize the police, but it might take them too long to get to the scene. Then, sometimes, it would be too late.
An event that took place this year was the shooting at Robb Elementary school: a man walked into the school and killed nineteen children, two teachers, and wounded at least seventeen others. If there had been security there that was armed to protect the school, I believe that tragedy could have been stopped.
The Parkland shooting is another case of the school lacking armed guards. A teen gunman killed seventeen and injured seventeen. Too many kids were taken too soon, so I feel like having armed guards there would have made a difference, especially since it was a huge school.
According to ABC7, ever since the Sandy Hook event, school shootings have tripled. This is a good reason that we should at least consider adding armed guards to all school campuses.
I know the parents would be concerned at first, but it’s for the safety of the children at school. School is for learning and building the future generation: it’s not for violence. We don’t want kids to fear going to school, and having armed guards would help.
