There are many positive words and thoughts about this year’s girls’ soccer teams as a whole. Despite the team’s losses during the season, they continue to strive after their games and focus on working towards bettering themselves, and their strategies on the field, individually and as teammates.

DHS assistant girls soccer coach and DHS English teacher, Nicole Borges, shares, “It isn’t always about winning for us. Sometimes our main goal is to simply improve on little things. We take it one step at a time to work towards our larger goal.” This indicates the team’s mindset and what they put into improving.

Practice after practice, the girls continue to bond and get closer as a team. Girls on the team, such as Aliana Campbell ’24, believe bonding with her teammates is a positive aspect for them since it allows them to have a close connection on the field. They see it being essential off the field as well. Campbell says, “It’s really great bonding with my teammates because without a bond it’s nothing, it makes you feel completely comfortable and makes you look forward to going to practice every day, and without that, it’s nothing.” Their team bonding and the girls’ feeling that their soccer team is another one of their “families” is a beautiful experience and has a positive effect on them. The fact that the team’s humbleness and effort come from their progress and each other shows how they are as a team on and off the field.

Borges summarized her goals for the team: “My future hopes for the team are for each girl to find their confidence on the field, to get some more wins under our belt, and like Salazar always says, to ‘shock the world.’”
