Introducing former firefighter Carlin Ali! Ali is Derby High School’s new gym teacher. Before becoming a gym teacher, Ali was a firefighter captain and lieutenant. She also worked for the Yankees and did ticket operations. Before teaching in Derby, she taught in Bridgeport and New York City.

Ali attended Iona University and Manhattanville College, where she received her bachelor of business administration/master’s in business administration and master of arts and teaching. Ali became interested in being a physical education teacher because she wanted to be able to teach children and give them opportunities to play sports and games they never had before.

On her first day, she was feeling very excited about starting and meeting all of her new students. Ali described herself as a goofy, energetic, and organized person. Outside of her work, Ali enjoys playing football, beach volleyball, and kayaking. This ties into her job and passion to help students become just as active as she is. We are very grateful to have another admirable figure brought into our school to help shape DHS! Welcome, Ms. Ali.
