On Thursday, November 18, 2022 DHS had its 5th annual lip sync battle with 13 performing groups. The grand prize was $500, the biggest prize yet!
The auditorium was filled with students and their families. The energy was great; students were cheering and everyone was singing along with the songs. Everyone had their phones out recording. The performers seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage and were supportive of one another.
Ray Coplin, the assistant principal of DHS, jokingly took credit for this event for the past five years. When asked why he hosts these events for the school Coplin said, “They’re fun for me, they allow my kids to come to the school and it allows students to engage in the school differently than they do normally, and it’s great to see everyone come together.”
Jamie Orizenti ‘24, David Clark ‘24, and Aniyah Rogers ‘25 won third place with a Beyonce medley. In second place was a large group of juniors performing a mix of a bunch of different songs, and in first place was Giovanni Vicens ‘23 and Jermaine Higgs ‘23.
Vicens and Higgs’ performance was a mixture of “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj and “Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. For the first half of the performance, Vicens and Higgs wore hilarious dresses and wigs, for the second half of the performance, Vicens changed into a suit and ended the performance with the famous Dirty Dancing lift.
Amy Reilly, one of the judges and DHS librarian said, “I enjoyed watching a very diverse school come together and cheer on the performers regardless of what they were singing, how they were dancing or what music they chose.”
In later years we hope to continue these great lip sync battles!
