Everyone needs a little bit of celeb drama in their lives! Here are the top three celebrity drama stories in recent weeks.

  1. Ye returns to social media

Kanye has returned to social media according to Hippopdx. Ye returned to social media platforms on Sunday, March 5, 2023, after his Instagram account got suspended for three months because of his anti-Semitic and controversial statements. He returned to Instagram posting a new song addressing his anti-Semitic controversy. I got to ask the biggest Ye fan, DHS teacher Rob Swierbitowicz, how he feels about Ye’s return to social media life. He said, “I think everything Ye does is calculated. That said, he should limit his time/comments/posts on each platform for a little while to ease back in.” I also asked if Swierbitowicz thinks Ye will ever get endorsements. He said, “ I have heard he is in talks with Adidas for the Yeezy name/brand for a large sum of money. He has had a tough journey thus far in life and has made it work. With time, I think he will be back up and running with more endorsements than he has now!”

  1. Ja Morant’s off-court problems

Ja Morant, point guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, has been getting into a lot of trouble off the court, so the NBA has given him an eight-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the league. Reportedly, on March 4, he was seen on Instagram live waving a gun around in a club. Morant reported that it wasn’t his gun, it was one of his acquaintance’s firearms, and then later on he was accused of beating up a 17-year-old boy. He was sued by the mother of the boy for $20 million, but it was determined to be a shakedown because he was a basketball player with money. I ask DHS teacher James Piazza how the NBA should deal with Morant and his actions. He said, “ I used to be a big fan of Ja. He brings excitement to the game and is a very talented player and appeared to be a good influence originally. Despite all the negative press on him, he decided to go on Instagram Live brandishing a gun. This, to me, is unacceptable. Looking it up now, Ja has 9 million followers on Insta alone and clearly the image and story went viral outside of that. In my opinion, a professional athlete needs to accept the responsibility of being a role model.”

3. Travis Scott’s altercation

According to E-News, Travis Scott was allegedly involved in an altercation at a nightclub in New York at 3:52 am on March 1, 2023. He was accused of punching a 52-year-old man and breaking equipment worth over $12,000. He has recently been involved in destroying DJ booths and destroying equipment, but the club says nobody was hurt. There was no ambulance called and they won’t release any evidence of who was involved. I asked Gio Vincens ‘23 if he thinks Travis Scott is involved in this altercation. He said, “ I think Travis Scott is a very wild person and does some wild things but I don’t really think it was him because I think he trying hard to work on himself and change his old ways.”

At DHS, most students read celebrity dramas and many teachers stay up to date, too.
