Visiting 8th graders become journalists in less than 30 minutes

On Thursday, May 11, two eighth graders — Juliana Clemens ’27 and Skylar Anderson ’27 — and the freshmen they were shadowing — Addison Brunetti ’26 and Alison Echeverria-Soto ’27 — joined Journalism class to get a taste for what it’s like to be a reporter for the school newspaper. In less than 30 minutes, they all became journalists by writing the mini-articles below. Enjoy their good work.

The Derby High School students in writing club got the chance to create colorful and inspiring quotes in front of the building.

On a beautiful summer day, Thursday, May 11, we walked out of the building and saw colorful chalk quotes spread across the cement floor.

One of the quotes that caught our attention was, “Go out and get it!”

Go check out the positive and funny quotes outside of Derby High School.

On May 11, a warm spring day, I saw trees, bees, and beautiful flowers outside DHS. One of the quotes that stuck out to me was, “Love yourself + be yourself.” That quote stuck out to me because it made me feel happy.

With the drawings and colorful quotes, you will feel an overall positive vibe here at Derby High School.

At Derby High School, the writing club has inspired us to be more joyful with the amazing chalk quotes they have put outside the main doors of the building.

After I read the quotes, I felt more positive, and I thought about how there are people in the world who try to help people feel better.

I saw cool drawings making me realize that people took their time to make us smile.

There are many different colors in the chalk. One quote was, “Love yourself.” It made me feel happy; there was an inspirational floor with body positivity.

You should go to DHS because it is a good experience to feel all the positivity we receive from this school.
