The Derby’s boy’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2023 season against Oxford at the DeFilippo Field on Sept. 12. Despite the loss, the captains believe that their Oxford game was their best thus far because they felt more connected and communicated better.

Captain Nick Sheridan ‘25 says, “Even though the score didn’t show it, I think we played our best at the Oxford game because we controlled the ball well, we tried very hard, but they’re just a better team than us.” The captains said that during the Oxford game they were making more passes and listened to each other and the coach better. Players that stood out in the game were Kevin Ferreira ‘25, Christopher Clavel ‘24 ,Christopher Ericastilla ‘25 , Quintin Simjow ‘25, and Sonny Khanthaohixay ‘24.

The team always tries their best; they may not be the best but they work together and build each other up. Sheridan says, “We’re like family, always close, always together, always trying to pick each other up even though it doesn’t work all the time or happen all the time. We can get angry at each other, but in the end we’re still a team.”
