According to Security.org, around 653,104 people are experiencing homelessness in America. This means there are 653,104 people without a bed to sleep in, without proper clothing, without access to proper hygiene, and without other necessities. People need to survive and feel human. Why hasn’t there been stronger support from the government for the homeless population? Not only are they citizens of America, but more importantly they are humans who need more government support. The support from the government will give the homeless access to essential services and resources, enabling them to regain stability within society.

Many have the stigma that people who are homeless are addicted to drugs, lazy, or it’s their choices that make them homeless, but this isn’t the case. The reason for homelessness is due to outside factors that one doesn’t have control of, like family abuse or neglect, loss of employment, low wages, disabilities, and more factors a person can’t control.

One of the main reasons for homelessness is the lack of affordable housing. Many people cannot afford housing due to low-income wages. Low-income individuals and families have to choose between their basic needs and paying for a roof over their heads. Without stable housing, people may end up living on the streets or in temporary shelters, which can have serious effects on their health, safety, and overall well-being.

According to EndHomeless.org, the government can take several steps to create more affordable housing options. They can invest in constructing more affordable housing units to increase the supply and lower costs. Additionally, they can provide rental assistance programs to help low-income individuals afford housing. The government can also offer support services such as job training, mental health counseling, and substance abuse treatment to help individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness stabilize their lives and find permanent housing solutions.

According to regenbrampton.com in addition to affordable housing initiatives, support programs such as job training, mental health counseling, and substance abuse treatment should be implemented, as well to address the other needs of the homeless population. By taking these actions, the government can play a crucial role in reducing homelessness and ensuring that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing.

The support provided to homeless individuals often falls short of addressing their needs. More sturdy programs and an increase in affordable housing options are not just beneficial but essential. By expanding these resources, we can offer hope and a bridge to stability for countless individuals currently left without a roof over their heads and a place to call home.
