Throwback Thursday was a highly participatory day during DHS’s Oct. 2024 Spirit Week. Everyone dresses up in outfits from past decades, making the day fun and nostalgic! Some may say this was a great way to celebrate how everyone dressed back then and enjoy creative dress-up.
During Throwback Thursday, the hallways transform into a vibrant fashion display from various eras. Students and teachers dig through their closets to find the perfect outfit, from low-rise jeans and graphic tees of the early 2000s to the skinny jeans and oversized hoodies of the 2010s. This day is not only about clothes but also about reliving that nostalgia and sharing stories. This atmosphere is filled with excitement and is a memorable part of DHS Spirit Week.

Almost everyone popped up with exciting outfits from the ’90s and early 2000s. Krystal Torres ‘25, who got her outfit inspiration from the singer “Aaliyah” explained, “Dressing up is pretty, it makes me feel good and special. Dressing up like this makes my day better.” She was delighted that everyone else’s outfits were outgoing and was spreading joy too. Algebra teacher David Chevarella expressed, “It’s pretty cool that kids are dressing up in the ’70s, or even further back than when they were born. It’s awesome to see different precipitation from different decades.” And the substitute teacher, Phil Ayr agreed. These teachers were ecstatic to see everyone’s outfits today! He highly expressed how happy he was coming forward about this special day. Another student, Faith Gallishaw ‘25 commented, “I chose the ‘90s because of my favorite singer, Nelly, from that decade.” She explained, “You get to dress up as any moment in the past. Everyone’s outfits are perfect and they did a good job representing Throwback Thursday.”
Throwback Thursday is more than just dressing up and showing off; it’s a way for people to connect with their favorite decade and share memorable moments with others. Throwback Thursday brings a sense of nostalgia and community to DHS.
