The boys have started the season with 1-8, but that hasn’t stopped them from putting effort into each game. They are looking forward to winning a second game.
The DHS soccer team has been putting other schools on edge with their through-balls and defensive offside trap. During their game with Wolcott, the boys played many long-balls and attempted to dribble by Wolcott’s defense which made for some great attempts. Unfortunately, they were unable to make any goals, ending the game 0-4.
The season started strong with the defense team stopping many attacking plays. Although it is an improvement from last year, many players still think they might struggle with a lack of communication. Luca Ventimiglia class of 27’ stated, “Definitely communication, definitely challenging for the ball more and passing better.” Many players agreed these are the main things they need to improve on. Regardless, the one thing the team has always excelled at is having a strong connection outside of soccer.
This year, the boy’s soccer team only has one freshman starter, Angel Zavala class of 28’. Zavala is a left defender on the team.
Even though the team hasn’t reached their full potential, there are still more games to come. They can show the Naugatuck Valley League what they’re made of when they have their comeback.
