At Derby High School, the coffee cart is run by students in the CLC classroom. This small yet important feature at this school not only serves delicious drinks but also spreads happiness to the teachers around the school. The coffee cart serves coffee , tea , and hot chocolate on Mondays , Wednesdays ,and Fridays.
On these specific days during advisory the CLC goes around the school and heads to different classes to drop off orders for teachers. A student from the CLC stated, “We want to give teachers a drink like coffee , especially if they are feeling tired or bored so it can give them energy for the day,” Ceppetelli’s entire class always has a fun time doing their job of going around the school with the coffee cart. “I believe that this is the best thing Derby High School has ever done, especially for the teachers.” states Steve Wojtowicz. Teachers who buy drinks from the cart always have positive reviews of the service. It is a symbol of togetherness and enjoyment.
The funds from the coffee cart go towards future field trips for Ceppetelli’s class and equipment that is used for the cart. Students who run the cart learn valuable life skills, such as how to interact with adults in a professional way and how to handle money. These skills can help the students in future employment.
Currently, no student from Derby High School can purchase a drink from this cart. This is only for the teachers so they could have joy and caffeine in their day. Teachers can order and pay in advance when they would like a drink.
