The Italian Honor Society at DHS recently held its second annual pasta dinner fundraiser in conjunction with the student council, bringing together students, families, and faculty for an evening of delicious food and community spirit. The event, which took place on Saturday, Nov 16, aimed to raise funds for the upcoming trip to Italy, which is taking place over spring break 2025.

As guests walked into the school cafeteria, they were greeted by the savory aroma of freshly prepared pasta dishes. The Italian Honor Society members, all dressed in matching T-shirts, worked tirelessly to serve the food, ensuring everyone had a full plate. When asked what his favorite part of the event was, Hunter Sigona, DHS Italian Teacher, responded, “I just like the concept of getting to see the kids go to work. I don’t mean that I enjoy seeing child labor, I just mean that I like seeing them take the responsibility of doing the different activities, which they take seriously while they’re doing it.” The dinner was not only a celebration of Italian cuisine, but also a chance for the students to showcase their leadership skills and passion for Italian culture.

In addition to the meal, attendees enjoyed Italian music and a raffle featuring a variety of prizes, including a multitude of gift cards to local restaurants, ranging from Chick-fil-A to Zuppardi’s Apizza to Peachwave.

Thanks to the hard work of the Italian Honor Society, student council, and the generosity of the community, the fundraiser was an absolute hit, exceeding expectations and ensuring that the future of the Italian language and its cultural programs at Derby High School will continue to thrive.
