Picture retakes came to DHS on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and those who had not taken a photo or did not like theirs had the opportunity to take a new one. Many students at DHS have dramatic reactions to their photos and require multiple retakes to get it right. Picture retake day is therefore a huge relief to countless at DHS.
Some may “retake” a photo due to the fact they have never taken a photo in the first place. Krystal Torres ‘25 shares her perspective on picture retakes: “It was unexpected. I didn’t know that it was happening and I got really upset because no one warned me. They said retakes and then they called me down anyway. I thought I had an option but I guess not. I never took one in the first place.”
Different people feel different but girls tend to react more strongly to pictures. Torres shares how she feels about getting her picture retaken: “The lady was nice but I didn’t like the picture though. My cheeks looked chubby.” Everyone has different feelings about this day and not everyone enjoys it.
Although one picture is good enough for some, taking a retake is a pattern for others. “I retake my picture every year. This year I just didn’t retake it this year because I had my senior portrait and that’s all I care about,” Torres said. She is one of the few who has a pattern of retaking her photo.
In society today everyone is always fixated on how they look in photos. Torres said, “I always hated how it looked. I would always know it was picture day, but I always had my natural curly hair, so I didn’t like it. I wanted to look actually presentable. I looked a mess.” Torres has strong feelings about how she looks in every picture day.
