Feb. 14 is a special day for many people around the world. It’s a day that is dedicated to spending time with your loved ones. This day is not only for romantic relationships but also for friendships. The Derby High School Spanish club hosted a special fundraiser for the love season. It was meant for everyone to have fun by sending gifts to a special someone. This fundraiser was available for all students and staff in the school.
“The purpose was to bring everyone together, to do fundraising for a trip that the club is planning to do,” said Alison Echeverria-Soto ‘26 a member of the Spanish club. The purpose of the fundraiser is to raise money for a future spring field trip for the DHS Spanish club. The club is looking forward to going on a trip during spring break in April. The club found a way where people could purchase something which was able to help collect money for the club. Since it’s February and Valentine’s season, the club thought it was the perfect idea to make a Valentine’s Day-themed fundraiser. This idea fitted perfectly because everyone is out looking for a gift to buy for a special someone, and this fundraiser was a fun idea for those to buy something for their valentine/friends.
On Jan.17, 2025, students and teachers were able to fill out a Google Form to buy a gift for their Valentine. The main idea of this fundraiser was for students and teachers to send anonymous gifts to someone they knew. They had the chance to make it known if they wanted that certain someone to know it was from them. Feb.13, the day before Valentine’s Day, was the day that the members of the club went around the cafeteria during both lunch waves. Since these gifts were anonymous the members of the club were the ones who were handing out the gifts. This was also another way to spread love and kindness around the school.
Students and teachers were able to order a rose, chocolates, a note and a side of music for their secret admirer. The chocolates were at $4, the roses were $3. Meanwhile, you could send a side note or a song for your Valentine. The song and note were included in the gift. This was not specifically for someone to buy a gift for their Valentine; people were able to buy one for their friends, as well. Anyone was able to buy one for whoever they wanted, even if it were to be their favorite teacher.
The club had received approximately 20 orders, and each one had helped raise money. The fundraiser was a win-win for everyone because it benefited the club and the school. The club was able to raise money while students and teachers were able to get something fun out of receiving and buying gifts.
