I was still living in the Bronx when I heard about the Elm Street Diner. I didn’t think my parents would drive all the way to Stamford, CT for a diner, but they actually did. If you are the type of person who wants to relax, eat good food, and not pay a ton of money, this is the diner for you. I’m a part of a family of four, and when we eat there, we never spend more than $150. This place is also good for families with small children because even their kids’ menu has a wide variety, and their milkshakes are fascinating to kids with the way they are decorated. Elm Street Diner is definitely the place to be.
When you first come to the restaurant, it’s hidden behind a car dealership, but when you find it, it’s a small building with black stairs leading to the top. The restaurant is a nice size: not huge, but enough space to fit about 300 people. The walls are decorated with graffiti art and bubble letters. The lighting is bright, and you feel a fun vibe when you enter. Every waiter and waitress has a smile on their face. They also just opened a new location in Norwalk, CT that shares the same bright atmosphere.
This diner is special: they have lots of fun items on their menu. They are best known for their special milkshakes. Some of the choices include the “Elm Street Cake Shake,” which is a milkshake that is layered with cake, candy, and other desserts. They have vanilla milkshakes, cookies and cream, strawberry, etc.; besides their specially decorated milkshakes, they have good cakes. Some of its cakes include five-layer chocolate cake, high red velvet cake, layer cakes, and strawberry cheesecake.
Their food menu has a wide variety of breakfast, brunch, and dinner options. My favorite dish is the chicken parmesan with fettuccine noodles. This dish includes 2 chicken cutlets, fettuccine noodles on the top, and cheese and parsley as a topping.
As soon as you take your first bite, you taste the perfectly seasoned chicken cutlet and how crispy it is. The noodles are cooked just right with the right amount of sauce. This meal costs $25, which could seem pricey, but this is quality food, which means money will be spent. I took my friend Xa’riyah Mitchell to Elm Street diner, and she absolutely loved it. “Wow, this is really good, like really good,” were her exact words, and she had a face full of delight. This meal usually lasts me two days since I don’t eat it in one sitting.
To end my meal, since it was my first time being guests at the Norwalk location, I was given a free lava cake.
This lava cake usually costs $9. There is a richness in the chocolate that is used, and the whipped cream on the side has just the right amount of sweetness to cut the rich chocolate.
Whenever you find yourself in Stamford, CT or Norwalk, CT, take a stop by Elm Street Diner to eat good food and enjoy good vibes.
