Dramatic, misleading (in a good way), mysterious: these are all words one can use to describe the 2012 hit show Gossip Girl. From the first episode, a big plot twist happens, and it immediately hooks you in.

This show stars Blake Lively and is based on her character, Serena Vanderwoodsen. She returns to New York City from her boarding school suddenly, and everyone wonders why. She just vanished one day and didn’t even say bye to her best friend, Blair Waldorf, played by Leighton Meester. The show is set in New York City, and the characters mainly live in the Upper East Side. The only exception to this is Daniel (Dan) Humphrey, played by Penn Badgley.  He lives in Brooklyn, but he is involved with the other characters because he goes to the same school as them. While Dan seems irrelevant at first, he later becomes one of the most important characters. However, there’s a big mystery. Who is Gossip Girl?

Now you may be wondering, what is the significance of Gossip Girl? Gossip Girl is a website that is run by a secret person, which is a big mystery. On this website, they expose big secrets of those who live on the Upper East Side or go to Constance (the school in the show). This website causes a lot of conflict. Students turn against each other, friendships break, and some fights even happen. This show is also full of twisted romances.

This show consists of six seasons, each with over 15 episodes, and each episode is about 30 minutes long. Every episode, there is a different plot twist that leaves the watcher shocked. If you watch and pay attention very closely,  they tell you who Gossip Girl is from the very first episode.

One of my favorite moments in the show is when Chuck moved to another country to try and forget Blair, but when he saw her again, he fell in love with her again. I loved this because it showed how Blair and Chuck were destined to be together. Something that a lot of the Gossip Girl fans love about Chuck and quote all the time is” I’m Chuck Bass.” Everyone finds this funny and thinks the way he says it is unique, so it’s something people closely associate with him.

There’s not much I can say without spoiling the show, but I do believe it is one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time. It’s perfect to binge watch and I think everyone should give it a try!
