DHS is going through its annual Advanced Placement testing. Here at DHS, we have nine AP classes offered: AP Psychology, AP Language and Composition, AP Government and Politics, AP U.S. History, AP Literature, AP Environmental Science, AP Spanish, AP Computer Science, and AP Calculus.
AP Psych is taught by Matthew Bradshaw, and the test is taking place on May 16 at noon. Bradshaw has been preparing his students all year by having them take handwritten notes and giving them tests and quizzes to prepare them for this test. AP Psychology covers almost all types of psychology, including anatomy, sensation and learning.
AP Language and Composition is taught by Nicole Borges, and it is a class that mainly seniors take. It is a class that teaches about rhetorical choices and different essays, along with multiple-choice questions. The test took place on May 14 at 8 a.m.
AP Government and Politics is one of the first AP courses a student can take here at DHS. Students can take it in their sophomore year, and it is taught by Spenser Butterworth. The class teaches all about the Constitution and how the government was formed. The exam took place on May 6 at 12 p.m.
AP US History, also known as APUSH, is a course that covers United States history about Native Americans, the American Revolution, and current events . Butterworth also teaches this course, and this exam took place on May 9 at 8 a.m.
AP Literature, also known as AP Lit, is taught by Kristen Parry. The class mainly focuses on literature and fiction texts. The exam took place on May 7 at 8 a.m..
AP Environmental Science is taught by Jennifer Shea.“We learned about biodiversity, pollution, different biomes, and food chains throughout the year,” said Nedaat Masiat ‘26. Shea has been preparing her students by testing them and having them complete labs in order to be prepared for the exam. The exam took place on May 13 at 12 p.m.
AP Spanish is the only AP language that we offer here at DHS, and it is taught by Fransciso Salazar. The exam covers everything from speaking to writing to reading in the language, and students have been preparing for the test all year long by having Spanish conversations with each other and working hard to prepare themselves for the exam ahead of them. This exam took place on May 15 at 8 a.m.
AP Computer Science is taught by Lauren King, and the course teaches about how the internet works, how to code apps, and ethical computer tactics. This is only the second year that the class has had enough students to run the class. King has been preparing her students all year by using AP Classroom, an online website for practice AP tests and helpful study tools, and giving them projects to help them be successful for this exam. The exam took place on May 15 at 12 p.m.
The last AP course that DHS offers is AP Calculus. This course is taught by Kevin Moore and “ covers integrals, dividends, and fundamental theorems” says Nick Sheridan ‘25. The exam took place on May 12 at 8 a.m.
