On Sept. 20, the DHS cross country team had a meet at Winding Trails Invitationals in Farmington, CT. At this impressive meet Shirley Diglio ‘27, Tyler Adams ‘27, and Neveah Dacruz ‘29 received medals due to their improved PR (Personal Record). Meanwhile, Joel Capelle ‘27 earned an Elite t-shirt for the top 20 performances alongside Sasha Capelle ‘29, who placed 18th in the girls varsity race.
So far the DHS cross country team is 3 meets into the season. They had an amazing performance at their most recent meet on Sept. 23 , 2025, the Derby tri-meet vs Seymour and Torrington. The boys team defeated Seymour 18-40 and Torrington 23-32. The girls team won 15-50 against both Seymour and Torrington. Both the girls and boys have put so much effort into this season, which is how they ended up having such an excellent meet.
The DHS team shows their dedication to improving each meet. Their most recent meet was on Sept. 30 at Derby High School. Both the girls and boys team defeated Torrington by 7-3. “Each practice is different but the team shows effort even if we are all tired” said Sofia Rudus ‘26. Every player on the team never gives up and reveals how the hard work will have a good result.
Aside from running, the sport gives the team new connections. Rudus ‘26 stated “The team is such a family, everyone gets along very well.” Cross Country is not only about running, this is a hobby where people can have fun. Through out all the activities the team has had , it had created a special bond that not only its about a sport , but its also about gaining new connections.
