Recently, on Sept. 19, 2025, DHS elected members of student council to serve as the new Executive Board. Those elected for the roles were Lazarae Delvalle ‘26 for president, Souzveen Mekael ‘26 for vice president, Sophie Mraz ‘26 for secretary, and Nedaat Masiat ‘26 for treasurer.
“I feel exhilarated that I was voted by my peers to be our schools President. I feel my other board members are extremely consistent and active members in the school and overall they are great people who participate and help in the community. I’m sure as a team we will find ways to better our school and everyone in it,” said Delvalle. “My plans to improve our school is to have more inclusion, making sure everyone is heard, give more recognition to students for their good doings and give the student body more say in decisions and activities in the school.”
“I’m very grateful that I was elected as vice president and it means a lot to me that other students voted for me. I’m excited to work with the other board members because I know that we want the best for the school. We plan to make this upcoming school year memorable with lots of fundraisers and spirit weeks to bring up morale,” said Mekael. “I plan on listening to students and making them feel heard. And bringing up any suggestions or concerns to our student council meetings to help find solutions.”
“I’m really grateful to have been elected and I’m excited to be able to take on a bigger part as a member of our student council. I’m very happy with the rest of the executive board, I’m not only eager for us to all work together, but I also think each of them will benefit the school in different ways,” said Masiat. “As treasurer, I don’t really have many set plans but I will absolutely make sure we have the funds to have a year filled with lots of fun.”
“I am super excited to be able to help with the school community being on this board, I am thankful to be elected for such a big role. I am also grateful about the other elected officers for the executive board and appreciative that I can work with them,” said Mraz. “I don’t have plans for our school just yet but I’m ready to do my job on the board to the best of my abilities.”
I asked Gavin Lagliva ‘26 and Fantasy Aponte ‘28 some questions about the election. Lagliva says, “Personally, I think this year’s election was very fun and energetic. The campaigning from all sides was fun and friendly. I believe the new executive board members will affect the school positively, but personally, I think there were better choices, but it was the school’s vote. I hope to see the student council succeed.” Lagliva actually ran for vice president in high hopes to win, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Although he did not win, he feels this group of individuals will do great things for the school and wishes them success.
Aponte stated, “I feel like it is an excellent group. I voted for all of those people. I think they will take control and speak as our voice and take our words seriously.” Aponte truly believes in this group of people, seeing that she voted for all of them. As an underclassman, Aponte takes being heard very seriously. She wants the best for her school and believes that the executive board will be able to fulfill their role to the best of their ability.
Overall, the student body seems ecstatic about our new leaders and the newly elected board can not wait to jump into action and make DHS a better place.
