DHS proudly participated in this year’s Pink-Out t-shirt design contest organized by the Future Business Leaders of America. School-wide voting took place on Sept. 16, 2025 to determine this year’s winner, demonstrating the spirit of community. The contest connected breast cancer awareness with design.

Brianna Hubbard 26’ was this year’s winner. She felt proud that she won the design. She personally has seen how breast cancer can affect a family, so she thought it would be good to participate and connect the idea with football, which comes from her being a cheerleader.

The primary goal of the Pink-Out contest is to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Fundraising has been a long-standing tradition at DHS, where students and staff gather donations for Griffin Hospital each year. Assistant Principal Ray Coplin stated, “It’s good to just give back.”

He also added, “I think most people know someone who is affected by breast cancer, or they know someone who knows someone who is impacted.” Supporting this cause is important, especially for those who might be personally affected by breast cancer. The fundraising efforts provide assistance to many individuals who may lack a support system or the financial means to access necessary treatment.

The event also honors the Derby Middle School assistant principal, Tracey Quartiano, who has personally been through breast cancer herself.
