Our school’s chapter of the National Honor Society demonstrated the power of service and unity through its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, which wrapped up on Nov. 20. The event, held throughout November, invited students, staff, and families to donate non-perishable food items to support local organizations providing holiday meals to local families in need. This year, the NHS received enough donations to bring meals to eight families.
Guidance Counselor Brian Nutcher gave some insight into the food drive. The National Honor Society has been running this event for over twenty years now, and each year the goal is to get enough donations to feed at least six families during the holiday season. Nutcher went on to say he hopes this could make Thanksgiving a little more enjoyable for some families. “Everything’s so expensive right now. If we could just help out families that may not be able to afford a hot meal, it’s just a nice feeling to be able to support,” says Nutcher.
This year, we saw strong participation from staff and across grade levels. With decorated bins placed throughout the school, people contributed canned vegetables, boxed stuffing and other staples to help make complete Thanksgiving meals. NHS members encouraged the general school population to get involved, creating a friendly sense of teamwork around a shared cause.
NHS President Souzveen Mekael ‘26 explained that the goal of the drive extended beyond gathering food; it was about living out the organization’s core values. “We wanted to make sure families in the community felt supported during the holiday season. Even small donations added up to something meaningful,” Mekael said.
Although the drive has ended, NHS members hope it continues to inspire students to give back throughout the year. Your individual contributions made a large impact. The school community helped make the season far brighter for many local families.
