Disney has long been known for creating animated films that combine memorable characters, imaginative worlds, and meaningful stories. “Tangled,” released in 2010, is a movie that continues to stand out years after its release because of its relatable themes and character development. Based on the story of Rapunzel, the film follows a girl who has spent her entire life trapped in a tower and finally gets the chance to see the world for herself. After meeting Flynn Rider, a thief on the run, Rapunzel’s quiet and repetitive life quickly turns into an unexpected adventure that helps her discover her identity.
One of the main reasons “Tangled” is enjoyable is its story. Rapunzel is raised not knowing she is a princess, and for most of the movie, she does not truly understand who she is or where she belongs. Watching her slowly question what she has become while also forming her own identity makes the story more meaningful. Her journey feels realistic as she experiences excitement, fear, and doubt, especially after leaving Mother Gothel, while learning to trust herself.
The characters are another strong part of the film. Rapunzel does not feel like a typical Disney princess. She is creative, optimistic, and sometimes unsure of herself, which makes her easy to relate to. Flynn Rider brings humor, confidence, and some selfishness to the movie, but he also develops as the story progresses. At first, he is focused mainly on money and protecting himself, but through his relationship with Rapunzel, he learns to care about someone else and eventually risks his freedom for her. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider’s relationship develops naturally, as their conversations add both comedic and emotional moments without feeling forced.
The animation adds to the overall experience of the movie. The colors are warm and detailed, which helps create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the film. One of the most memorable scenes is the lantern scene, which represents Rapunzel finally getting closer to understanding who she truly is. This moment stands out not just because of how it looks, but because of what it represents: her realization that the floating lanterns are connected to her past and symbolize hope and freedom.
Music also plays an important role in helping tell the story. Songs like “When Will My Life Begin?” help show Rapunzel’s routine and her desire for something more. As the movie continues, the music reflects how the characters begin to understand themselves. For example, in “I See the Light,” both Rapunzel and Flynn realize their feelings for each other, while Rapunzel begins to understand her true connection to the lanterns. The songs fit naturally into the film and add emotion without taking attention away from the plot.
Overall, “Tangled” is a movie that succeeds because of its strong story, relatable characters, and meaningful themes. By focusing on identity, independence, and self-discovery, the film offers more than just entertainment. Because of this, “Tangled” remains a movie worth watching and continues to connect with audiences even years after its release.
