Some people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and for many, a great breakfast sandwich is a perfect start to the day. I decided to take a trip to Duchess, located at 60 Pershing Drive, Ansonia, Connecticut, and Goodies, located at 170 Cherry Street, Milford, Connecticut, to see who really has the ultimate breakfast sandwich. I was ready for this taste test to determine which eatery would be crowned champion of sandwiches.

I started my taste test at Duchess, taking advantage of their two-sandwich deal for $7. I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with a tropical punch Hi-C to drink. Next, I headed to Goodies, known for its egg and cheese, which also has its own deal of one sandwich for $2.99 during the hours of 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., so that is what I purchased. Both sandwiches looked very presentable and extremely appetizing, which made me eager to take the first bite.

The bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches from Duchess were tasty. The bacon was crispy and tasty while the egg was cooked to perfection. The hard bun was also very good, but I felt there was too much bread and not enough sandwich. The tropical punch was sweet and quenched my thirst. Overall, I thought it was a satisfying meal, despite the slight imbalance of the sandwich.

From Goodies, the egg and cheese sandwich on the soft roll was exquisite. The egg was cooked very lightly, creating a delicate texture, while the rich, savory cheese was perfectly melted onto the sandwich. When taking each bite, the harmonious blend of flavors and textures was evident, and the sandwich practically melted in my mouth. It was truly a sandwich worth savoring. Brianna Fernandez ‘28 agrees and says, “The egg and cheese sandwich from Goodies was delicious!”

Overall, I would choose Goodies as the winner of this breakfast sandwich battle due to its exceptionally fresh ingredients and perfectly soft roll. Both restaurants are amazing, with Duchess offering many options for its breakfast sandwiches and Goodies offering quick service and consistent high quality. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast in the morning before school or work, or a weekend treat, both Duchess and Goodies are worth a visit.
