On Feb. 5, 2026, I observed Shelly Sheridan’s transition support class. The classroom focuses on basic skills and necessities that some students or young adults may lack during after-school hours or may not receive from a parent or guardian.
During my visit, I participated in a lesson preparing students for their permit test. Sheridan presented the assignment in a fun and engaging way, using a puzzle and a video to help students learn and understand what they would encounter on test day. This approach was helpful because some students may not absorb information from reading alone or may need encouragement to stay focused.
The assignment included 30 questions, some paired with pictures and written prompts to support visual learning. Color was used to capture students’ attention and reinforce the lesson. Sheridan said the approach often helps students with short attention spans stay focused.
I believe this class should be offered as a regular course and be required at our school. It teaches essential life skills such as budgeting, paying bills, and other basics, while also preparing students for independence after high school. This class helps students feel more confident taking on bigger responsibilities. Overall, I found the class very beneficial and enjoyed learning how to better prepare myself for the next steps in life.
