As the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer, everyone is looking for ways to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. After months of cold temperatures and busy school schedules, spring and early summer are the perfect time to relax, spend time with friends, or try something new! Whether you like being active or just want a fun way to unwind, there are plenty of activities to enjoy in the warm weather this summer.

One option could be visiting local parks or hiking trails. Spending time outdoors can help reduce stress and improve your mood, especially during the final stretch of the school year. I enjoy going on walks, having picnics, or playing sports like volleyball or soccer with my friends. Even something simple like bringing a speaker and sitting outside can make a regular afternoon feel more exciting.

Another great warm-weather activity is exploring nearby towns and events. Farmers’ markets, carnivals, and community festivals often begin during the spring season and give students something fun to do on weekends. One example of somewhere you could go is the Orange Community Farmers Market, which takes place every Thursday from 3:30 to 7pm. Ice cream shops and outdoor restaurants also become super popular once the weather gets nicer, making them great places to hang out after school or on summer nights.

For anyone looking for more adventure, day trips can be a fun way to make memories. We have many local beaches to visit and relax at, like Walnut Beach in Milford or Pennfield Beach in Fairfield. If you’re looking for something more adventurous, you could even drive down to a Rhode Island beach or take the train down to NYC or Boston! Warm weather also creates lots of opportunities for biking, kayaking, and other hobbies that are harder to enjoy during colder months.

With the way the economy is right now, it can feel exhausting when trying to relax only brings you more financial stress. Not every activity needs to cost money! Reading outside, watching sunsets, going on runs, or having backyard bonfires are simple ways to enjoy the season without spending much. The best memories often come from spontaneous plans and time spent with people you care about.

As students count down the days until summer vacation, warm weather offers the perfect chance to recharge and enjoy life outside of school. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time, taking advantage of the sunshine can make the season more enjoyable and memorable.
