Every year from February to March, the DHS Student Council rounds up their members and gets the chocolate bunny sale going. This is a hit fundraiser every year for Student Council as the students fight for a prize that is given to whoever sells the most chocolate bunnies.

This engaging event raises money to give back to our own school and class specific fundraisers, while also bringing our community together. The money goes back to things like the DJ and decorations for prom, sponsoring students going to the CASC Convention, and class fundraisers. This fundraiser is more than just a competition, it’s about expanding student opportunities and creating better experiences within the school. Nedaat Masiat ‘26 explained, “I enjoy doing this fundraiser every year because it helps us accomplish fun things later in the school year.” In years past, the money from this fundraiser has gone to supporting the now senior class in their sophomore year, enabling us to run a successful color run that brought the class and community together in a fun way!

When I asked student council co-leader Rebecca Bell what made the fundraiser such a success in years past she said, “Having it be a contest where the top sellers have the opportunity to win prizes.” There is such a great outcome every year because students are striving for these prizes, creating a friendly, yet competitive atmosphere. The incentive encourages participation and boosts overall sales. Hailey Cartagena ‘26, who has been working hard to sell bunnies and jelly beans, eagerly shared, “I want that free prom ticket and the goodie basket!” It’s no surprise to us that the fundraiser gets more and more popular each year.

This fundraiser is a great way to bring the community together in support of all the DHS classes, prom and other student opportunities. The friendly competition for prizes at the end of the fundraiser draws more students in to participate in years to come. As the fundraiser grows in popularity, it’s clear that the sense of community, camaraderie, and excitement will keep making it a memorable tradition for years to come.
