Decision Day is one of the most important moments in a high school student’s life. It is a day when seniors think through all of the colleges they have been accepted to and make their final decisions about where they will continue their education.
On May 1, Derby High School seniors made their decision and repped their schools, which were mainly CT State Community College, UCONN, and Southern Connecticut State University. While other students chose other colleges such as Sacred Heart, University of Bridgeport, Quinnipiac University, New Haven University, and others. We are happy to know that this is a day that represents years of hard work, late night studies, and personal growth since freshman year.
Despite the pressure, it is also a time of celebration. Schools often host events where students proudly announce their chosen colleges by wearing shirts. Friends and teachers come together to support each other and recognize everyone’s achievements. This year, DHS held a photo booth during both lunch waves to take pictures with your friends, getting two strips for five dollars.
This day is more than choosing a school, but about taking the next step towards adulthood and independence. While the decision may feel overwhelming for everyone at first, it also opens the door to new, exciting opportunities, experiences, and growth.
